Is The Suicide Squad (2021) a reboot of the original film from 2016? Is this new one part of the DCEU or not?

Technically, it is a sequel to the 2016 film (some of the original cast are returning), but it will be a new story and will not follow any plot points from the 2016 film. 

Presumably, it will be part of the DCEU.

The trailers are confusing..........because first they say, it's about a war in the 70's or the past.........

and then they show the Viola Davis  character  saying  "You all know the deal.......complete the mission and get 10 years off your sentences. "

Huh?   so that implies they've all done a mission for her before...........if they all "already know the deal" .

So is it a prequel?   a Sequel?  

and while the trailers are calling it  "Sucide Squad 2"........the Print ads do not say  "2" - 

They just say   "The Suicide Squad"..........like maybe it's just a re-boot......and starting over. 

Looking forward to the character called   "Weasel"!   Ha!
