Is it ok to put car in neutral before changing the cars motion (R to D) ?
When going from Reverse to Drive, i know its not good to change gear while the vehicle is still moving, but if you shift to neutral and wait for the car to start moving the other direction before changing, theoretically this should be ok. Is that true? There shouldnt be any wear on the bands and clutch plates as you arent forcing the gear box to move in the other direction by abruptly shifting from Backward to Forward. Any opinions or confirmation would be great.
I mean doing this as apposed to coming to a complete stop each time (which i do every time).
Jim & Dot, Thats exactly what i mean. Thanks

So you are going one direction, go into neutral , wait for the car to stop going that direction and start rolling in the other direction, then shift into the gear of the direction that the car is now going ??

That is basically shifting a rolling car into gear for the direction that it is already going

No damage. it is OK

It's a waste of effort and saves you no time or wear on the vehicle. Reverse, come to a complete stop, shift, go.

I do it all of the time, then again, I`m a careless magician.
