Why do most Christians fail to make the distinction between hell (hades) and the lake of fire (gehenna)?

THEY JUST LISTEN TO THE PREACHER AND NEVER READ THE BIBLE SO ARE ACTUALLY BIBLICALLY ILLITERATE.

Because the KJV doesn't make the distinction, translating both words a 'hell' and / or 'hellfire'.

Since this was the Bible the vast majority of people who claim to be Christian read, they have no reason to learn the difference.

Today we have better translations, but people still revert back to what the KJV says.

As one translator of the NIV stated, 'Translators of God's word are held hostage to the KJV'

The quality of any translation is judged by its agreement with the KJV.

Many feel the KJV is an inspired translation, not realizing it contains according to one translator, some 20,000 errors.

  • Can you turn the word as you want, in the end, the meaning is always the same? Eternal Hell, dimension of suffering and eternal weeping!

Lazy thinking. Hell is a cold underworld, which Revelation says will be cast into the lake of fire.

    Many Christians

    religiously believe

that Hell and Gehenna are the same.

    Apparently

    you religiously believe

that Hell and Hades are the same.

    I

    for example

    don't believe either of those

    but

    rather

believe that Hell and Hades are distinct (see Rev 20:10-15 in any modern, scholarly translation)

and I don't know or care about how and where Gehenna fits into that.

The unbeliever goes to torments in hell, and then later every unbeliever always goes from hell and on to The Great White Throne Judgment (which they all fail since they were unbelievers) and then to the lake of fire for eternal torment.  It's very easy to avoid hell.  Here is the truth: The Lord Jesus Christ is God. Nobody can be good enough to avoid hell. The truth is that death leads to immediate heaven or hell, depending only on whether the person believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, or not. The truth is that the Lord Jesus Christ loves you and wants to bless your life freely :) Most of all, Jesus wants you with Him forever, and not in hell. It is too late to be saved, after death.

Believing on the Lord Jesus Christ means being forgiven all sins past and future and means going to heaven. The truth is that every belief except one will lead to eternal torment in the lake of fire for every person. Because nothing pays for our sins except the death and blood of Jesus, the sacrifice of Jesus that is already accomplished by Him . Jesus loves you! The truth is that the Lord Jesus Christ is God, and Jesus died on the cross to pay for all of our sins in full, and then Jesus was buried, and then Jesus resurrected from the dead. Nothing else pays for our sins, not works, not deeds, not religions. So the only way to heaven and to avoid hell, is by believing on Jesus for eternal life (John 6:47), without adding any of your own works (Romans 4:5). Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ to take you to heaven, and you will be in heaven, no matter what, guaranteed. That easy, thanks to Jesus! Tell Jesus that you thank Him that you will be with Him in heaven

The KJV just uses the word "hell" for "hades" which has misled many readers.

Does it matter? The lake of fire is in Hell so your point?

    And then there is "Tartarus".
