What is the big deal on the supreme court?

John Adams appointed John Marshall to the court February 4, 1801, 4 months after his defeat by Jefferson, without complaints.  Why, the founders ALL understood the purpose and intent of the constitution.

    Adams pulled a LOT of questionable sh*t between his electoral defeat and TJ's inauguration. He's not exactly a role model to follow.

    Adams lame duck appointment of Marshall, and a whole host of lower court judges, was extremely controversial at the time.  It helped spawn Marbury v Madison, one of the most important court cases in US history.
