Lots of yahoogroups are closing or moving because in december 2019, Verizon took away everything that distinguished yahoogroups from apps and ordinary email-lists: message-archive, digest, polls, files....
Several thousand groups have moved to groups.io , a small company set up by one of the pioneers of what would later become egroups and yahoogroups.
ADDED: they are shutting them down december 15th 2020, because it isn't profitable to keep them, which many saw coming. When you stop offering everything your competitors don't offer too, you know you will lose
