If somebody has 6 cats and a few of them don't get along, what should they do?

So, the older male (7) is the strongest by far and is aggressive to the younger cats, (1) and 4 months, especially the females. At least one of the younger cats tends to torment the older female (7).  Currently, they are kept segregated most of the time in different areas of the house, but this is not an ideal solution.  It has been suggested that meds can help calm the dominant male and help calm the aggressive younger female.  Do you think these are realistic solutions?  Should they get rid of one or more of the cats?

get some Feliway from the vet. It is a plug in device that emits a aroma that makes cats feel good.
