Ears ringing and higher pitch noises sound distorted after sleeping next to fan ?

Update:

Fan wasn't loud but vibrated alot. And may have been emitting a high pitched noise.

    Don't sleep next to a fan:  it is damaging your hearing!

    You make have dried out the ear.  Remove the dried wax and if necessary use a wax remover.

    Too much chop.

    Seriously.   Lower frequency noises make it through where higher frequency ones get 'chopped by the blades. 

    Your brain attempts to compensate,  and when the fan is removed; distortion. 

    Look at a waterfall close up for 5min and then look away and see (and feel) what happens.
