what was the most powerful thing a jedi could do BEFORE Disney killed Star Wars?

I think most people have only really seen the Star Wars movies ... so I'm going to ignore games, animated series, and novels. 

In the original trilogy we see the Force used to move objects, such as rocks and lightsabers. The pinnacle of this was Yoda extracting Luke's X-wing from the swamp. We also see Darth Vader remotely strangling minions, sensing the presence of other Force sensitive people, Luke using the Force to move himself (leaping from the carbonite freezer), Vader and Luke having a 'conversation' remotely, Obi Wan sensing the death of millions of people, and Luke being able to see a possible future. And of course, we see the Force being able to influence the weak minded.

In the prequels, Obi Wan, Qui Gon Jinn and Yoda use the Force, similar to Luke, to move fast and leap great distances. Anakin sees the future, senses danger. Senator Palpatine fires electric bolts from his fingers.

So in all the movies, the Force powers were nothing like the levels seen in the latest trilogy ... no stopping ships from flying, or laser blasts stopped in mid air, or huge numbers of boulders suspended, or water droplets transporting, or Force projections.

That was why people had issues ... how does a young Force sensitive woman suddenly master all these powers without training, yet ramps them up to levels Yoda never had. It felt like a betrayal of what we'd seen before.
