Is my son gifted?
He just turned 4 a month ago and started JK. But he is reading at a grade 2 level, and his math skills at a grade 3 level.
But in every other way he is like a preschooler. He doesn't have that great of vocabulary either, he can't write, colour or draw much. Most gifted children I saw are much more mature and seem years above their age.

Many children who are “gifted” academically are actually behind in social skills and development. He may be advanced in math and reading, but he’s still a 4 year old child with the maturity of a 4 year old. My father skipped the 8th grade for being smart. Many smart kids from his generation skipped ahead, but they were not mentally ready. Most schools don’t skip kids ahead anymore because their social skills and development don’t match their academic skills. Your son may be very smart for his age, but he’s still 4.
