It began in the 1960's with the "anti-establishment" rhetoric that went on, the protests against the Vietnam War, and the beginning of the dumbing down in the public schools.  I taught from 1959 to 1998, and the changes in America's educational system over the years have been appalling.  Students don't take Civics to learn about how our government functions, they quit learning how to write in cursive, "new math" is a joke, and kids can no longer read higher level books.  Parents don't take the initiative to speak up and demand better quality of teachers and subject matter.  Things have crept in that the Founding Fathers fought against in the Constitution.  Americans can't see the damage they're doing to themselves because they don't know what the damage is. It's a case of the inmates running the asylum.
