How to access a computer I have forgotten the password for?

Question

This is a Gateway laptop with Windows 8, and only shows a blue box with "Enter Correct Password" in it.  I have tried every password I ever remember using, as well as "Admin", "Password" and "letmein".

Without access, this computer is nothing but a freaking doorstop, and my son really needs one for school.  There MUST be a way to override the password requirement, mustn't there?  Please help

You can remove the laptop battery and the AC connection, and remove the backup button battery (you need a maintenance manual for that and some tools), Wait a few minutes, and then reinstall the backup button battery. This should clear the BIOS of any password.

If Windows is asking for a password, you can just re-install windows.

Is the request for a password coming up before it starts to load the Windows program?  If that is the case, someone has turned on the system password on.  How you change that is different for every model of laptop.  Would need to know that specific model to be able to Google the process for turning off the BIOS password.

If it's a BIOS password, remove the battery and open the laptop up and remove the CMOS battery and leave it out for about 10 minutes.  Reinstall it and on boot up, it should start normally.

If you have forgotten the password then try to restart your system and then press the F8 key to enter into safe mode. As it enters into safe mode, go to control panel > user account and change your password. Restart your system and enter the new password.

Nobody forgets their log on password unless they have alzheimers.
You must be using someone else's computer and are trying to hack it.
