If you see a panhandler standing on street corner with pet dog, do you give them any money?

I don't, because I figure if they can afford to feed a dog they can feed themselves.

No, I don't give them money, I've bought a meal for the guy & some dog food for the dog.

I think your thought pattern is a bit out of wack.  Be kind.

Mmmm...People with the signs that read "Traveling folk, hungry and broke" and a dog with 'em...

Get nothing from me. I haven't been able to afford traveling for a vacation for several years.  If they don't have to work, AND can afford to travel, they're obviously better off than I am.

Not only that - I could give someone ten bucks, and it might buy him/her one meal. That same amount donated to a soup kitchen could buy several.

No, I never give to beggars, dog or not, any money.

Not for the same reason as you though.

Its impossible to tell if they are genuine or not and as Verulam says, they may

have a car parked somewhere and actually live quite comfortably.

Some of these so called Beggars, take a dog with them to gain sympathy from people walking by.

However I do give a donation at Christmas to the Long standing Salvation Army to help with caring for genuine Homeless people.

I'm afraid not.   Dog with them or not, I believe all too many of these people have a car parked round the corner.   I also have to believe that charity begins at home, for us.

Yes, lately they all seem to have a dog; I do give them money; they have fallen on hard times, but still taking care of their dogs.

No, but I will go buy dog food for the dog and give it to him. But, I'll open the package so he can't return it for cash.

I don't generally give panhandlers any money, but instead donate to a local food bank, homeless shelter, and programs helping homeless individuals find housing and employment.

I live in an area inundated by panhandlers.  The situation has gotten much worse since the pandemic began.

NONE of them has a dog.

Pet food, I might point out, is pretty cheap, and dogs will often eat crap humans can't.
