Do diesel engines really last longer?
Read they last around 1 to 1.5 million miles before needing any major work done to them in comparison to petro engines that will last around 200,000 before needing any major word.

No that's only commercial grade diesels. Consumer grade diesels might last longer than petrol but 1 million is very unlikely. Commercial grade diesels can sometimes hit 1 million because they run all day. Most of the wear occurs during startup and diesel fuel is also a lubricant. So yeah certain commercial grade diesel engines that run all day will easily last more miles than cheap consumer grade engines.
