can brick inside in a old home effect a WIFI signal?

    the denser the wall, the less likely wifi will go thru it.

    try to position the unit higher or near a window. windows almost don't limit wifi at all.

    Yes, my last house had a room that was an add-on, meaning that the wall between the house and the room was brick inside. We had the Wifi in that room, and wifi connections in the rest of the house was spotty at best.  We had to move the Wifi to another part of the house and run Ethernet to that one room.
