Does brushing hair regularly help make it straight?

Might sound stupid and obvious but Im a dude thats always had short hair because I have naturally curly hair that just turns into a poofy afro if left alone. I want to try growing it out a little bit more, not to the afro, but to style it differently. Would regular brushing or combing help straighten out my hair. Also whats better a comb or a brush?

    Not at all.

Brushing distributes the scalp oils along the shafts to aid in pliability. Nothing more than that.

Shampoo and conditioners tend to strip the hair of those oils. That leads to dry, brittle, broken hair shafts.
