My 1 year old did something to my computer and now the f keys are the default.?

Problems withh keyboard can be solved when resetting CPU.To reset CPU - remove battery from laptop (if possible) and unplug from outlet.Press power button and hold it for 20 seconds.

"function" keys are not a standard part of Windows. They are set by each manufacturer and wok however the manufacturer decides they want them to work.  Each between HP computers they vary from model to model.

But normally functions share their use with other things.  You have told down a special key to make them do their function.  that key usually will have "Func" or something like on it.  Usually they have blue text while other keys have white text.  

Your one year hold may have pressed down that FUNC key.  Pressing it again should return the keys to their normal usage.  

Start

Enter device manager

Left click Keyboards

Left click HID Keyboard device

Click the driver tab

Click uninstall

Reboot the computer

Look for a key labelled something like "F-Lock" or "Function Lock".

That should toggle the F keys between F# actions and dedicated control actions.

If it does not have that, try pressing and holding the Fn key at the bottom left of the keyboard, and tap the shift key.
