A little help with physics?
When a gun is fired, the shooter describes the sensation of the gun kicking. Explain this in terms of momentum conservation.
I don't know how to explain something 'in terms of momentum conservation.'
Please help me out here. Thanks!
(P.S. I've found questions from my physics class on here from a decade ago. I think it's funny how the exact same questions are still used.)

Initially, everything is at zero velocity.
When the gun is fired, there is a gas buildup between gun and bullet, the bullet is pushed forward, the gun has to be pushed back..
Contrast this to a rocket launcher where the projectile itself has propulsion.
