Physics, am i doing this right?

A pole vaulter clears a height of 6.00 m. With what velocity does the vaulter strike the mat in the landing area?

I just want to make sure I am doing this right

Givens:

h-6m

v-?

Work:

PE=KE

mgh=.5mv^2

m(9.8)(6)=5mv^2

58.8=.5v^2

58.5/.5=.5v^2/.5

117.6=v2

10.84m/s=v

    If you assume that the vaulter fell "from rest" (that is, with zero initial KE), then your math is sound. Some graders would take off, however, for too many significant digits. v = 10.8 m/s
