Find the tension in the rope supporting the 200. N hinged uniform beam as shown in

the diagram.

    Model the weight = 200 vertically down at the midpoint of the beam. 

    Balance the torques:

    The component of tension T perpendicular to the beam * L = Clockwise Torque

    The component of W = 200N perpendicular to the beam * L/2 = CCW Torque

    T*sin50 *L = 200*cos50 * L/2

    T*sin50 = 100*cos50 

    T*tan50 = 100

    T = 100/Tan50 = 83.9N <<<<<
