You quit before it was killing you, but not being killed by it is probably the best!

Congrats!
Well you will not get arrested for DUI
You will see things more clearly if you are out with friends who are drinking (acting like idiots)

an occasional beer wont hurt you. A glass of wine with dinner wont kill you. Everything in MODERATION. I am a competitive power lifter. Im in way better shape than most people. Every now and then I have a beer. Its great with pizza. Mostly I drink water though. So to answer your question it wont benefit you much to quit unless you are an alcoholic.

better health, clear thinking, and you will feel better, physically and mentally.

Good choice. To begin with, you will have a clear-thinking head. You will look & feel better all around including getting better erections with more intense climaxes. Your kidneys & liver will thank you later on in your life because alcohol just tears them up real bad. Those are only a few things. I used to drink like a pig in my twenties & thirties & now I am in stage 4 kidney failure for 2 months now. There is hope though, I stopped drinking 2 months ago, changed my diet, started drinking cranberry & black cherry juices & lots of water. My point count was 234 when diagnosed. Anything under 100 points is safe. In just 3 weeks my count went down to 189 & now it's looking good. The doc is very satisfied. I feel great & look a hell of a lot better. So you see all things are positive when you do it responsibly. You don't have to quit drinking completely but just do it socially. (your choice). My doc said sometimes it takes years before your organs show the effects of excessive drinking. At 28 this is a good time to start protecting your internal engine because you are going to need lots of help when you get older. Be happy & safe. Positive thinking conquers anything. This is my opinion.

First, alcohol is a stimulant that can lead to addition, and your brain may be fighting, so-to-speak, with your physical body learning why you no longer drink alcohol. Depending on how long you drank alcoholic drinks, your brain will send messages to your body to relent its hold on your nervous system and release you from your drinking habit.

Lots of stuff, and lots of things that WON'T happen to you later on. A drink now and again isn't a bad thing but habitual drinking has any number of bad long term effects. Not to mention the time and money lost to hangovers, mistakes and misjudgements made while drunk or foggy-brained the day after, etc. Your brain will be sharper, you'll have more energy and feel mentally and physically bad less often. You have made an excellent life choice.
