Is paying for 1 or 2 is it the same equation as paying for 20?

    No. paying for 20 is:

    20 times as much as paying for 1

    10 times as much as paying for 2.

    If one is $1 and 2 is $2

    20of them  is $20.

    What are you buying? If the per unit cost is constant and there are no restrictions (minimums, maximums) on how many you can buy and no discount for buying larger quantities, then it would simply be the unit cost times the number being bought.

    But without knowing the details, I can't answer this for sure.
