Can you actually get a job with a certification?

Yes

Most medical assistants are certification not degrees

Certificates of completion are available for a variety of areas, including cyber security, emergency management, marketing and project management. These certificates can attract employers and help you get a job – particularly if the job requires some education, but not a degree.

Only if the place hiring is desperate.

For that job they often require certification. They don't require a degree as they want cheap assistants. They do want experience so some sort of school that can get you a internship is ideal. It is also ideal to make a great impression during internship and get hired by that company.

Pretty much every medical office in the US has at least one medical assistant that has a certificate.  They get hired all the time.

A college degree is evidence that you've learned something.

A certificate is evidence that you've done something.

For example, a person can have all the academic credentials for a field such as accounting, but they can't become certified until they've worked for an accounting firm for a certain amount of time (to become a CPA).

Whether a certificate is valuable completely depends on what job they're hiring for.
