How does the SPOT locator work if you become incapacitated and cannot press the emergency button?

Does it still transmit an emergency? Or you must be conscious and have the locator in possession for it to work?

    Think "Onstar" in your car. If you're in a movie, "GuideStar".

     ELT's (emergency location transmitters) have an inertia switch that activates an 'armed' transmitter in a crash or a very hard landing.

    Used to work at a small airport and we'd have to search out an ELT on our own property at least once a month. We had a locator for this function.
