My mom went to  hospital for a stroke. They operated on veins in neck. But sent her  home 1 day. Do they stay longer  in  other countries?

Congratulations that they operated. That's brilliant. They didn't on my mum and she keeps getting sick. I hope yours makes a good recovery. They don't keep them in long. The shortest time possible. That's modern medicine! Take care and all best wishes to your mum.

It all depends on the severity of the stroke and upon the severity of the vascular surgery.   One day seems too short.   Way too short.

In the US, my dad just had part of his femur removed and his knee replaced because of cancer,  and he was sent home in 2 days.

Also far too little time in recovery.   We barely got him home.

After liver failure that led to encephalopathy,  a coma and brain damage resulted in my staying in the hospital for 4 months.

The difference?  Primarily type of health insurance.

    He has an HMO.
