How fast can your internet actually get?

Even if you have 1GB/s internet speed, will you still have to wait for the other end right? Like if you do a Google search then you need to wait for the webserver. So you can only really get the speed down to a certain limit but I'm just wondering if maybe servers that handle lots of people are usually incredibly fast to the point that the time you wait is negligible. Like say I had 1PB/s internet speed, how long would I expect to wait for say a google search after I press enter? And how long would I have to wait for a webpage to show after I press it?

Your bandwidth and response time are two different things.  You are also limited by whatever the server is that you are connected to.     Bandwidth is like a giant highway, but if you only need to move one car it doesn't help you if you build a 10 lane highway for yourself.   This is why 1Gb/s download plans are a complete waste of money for most people.   Aside from downloading large files or having 30 TV's streaming 4k video at the same time, you will never get much real benefit from it.  Your response time is the time you wait for something before it even starts downloading.  Generally the response time will be around the same for the specific provider across all plans.
