3 years in a row the IRS has not received my mailed in tax returns?
Literally the past three years I have mailed my tax returns to the IRS only to have them not receive it despite the tracking number showing it was delivered. Finally, my last attempt to fax my tax returns to the IRS and I still haven't heard anything back from them. Why are they so incompetent?
And am I going to get in trouble because of this? I literally haven't had a tax return processed in 3 years because they consistently lose my mail or never get it.
I'm updating this question because I called the IRS and they said that they have not received my mailed in returns and they actually gave me the fax number to fax it to them. I did that and I still have heard nothing back. 3 years in a row of mailing my returns to the correct address and every time I call them they say they never received it.

Obviously someone is incompetent, but I don't think it's the IRS. Why on earth are you still doing paper returns? I doubt very much that you've not had tax returns processed in 3 years. More likely is that your returns have been flagged or held up by a debt you owe--and you just aren't getting refunds. Best keep those tracking numbers if you get audited.

They don't accept filing by fax. A lot of 2019 returns that were mailed in are still being processed. It's much quicker and safer to e-file.

How do you know the returns have not been processed?
Unless you are expecting a refund you didn't get or you are getting nasty letters from the IRS, you don't get anything from the IRS that says the return is processed..
If you aren't getting your refund after 3 years, why haven't you contacted the tax advocate group in your state?
If you are getting letters that say you need to file a return, why haven't you responded to those letter?
If neither of those are occurring we can guess that your taxes have been accepted and processed.
