The greenhouse effect occurs when the Earth's atmosphere traps heat radiating from the Sun.

"To trap" means to prevent heat from escaping from the Earth's atmosphere. Am I right?

    Yes, that is exactly what it means

    and it happens because there is too much carbon dioxide and methane

    in the Earth's atmosphere, and these gasses 'hold in' the heat that would

    normally 'radiate' back out into space.
