All kinds.  As a kid, my nearest neighbour kids I played with were German, Dutch, Russian, and Hungarian.  None were the same denomination as I was.  Their differences made no difference; we were all kids.

In grade one, I became friends with a native boy.  The reserve was on the other side of the valley, so I did not  meet many of them until school.  There also were Portuguese kids, who were mostly Catholic.

In high school, we had a Chinese classmate.  In Grade 11, a French Canadian family moved to our town (3 daughters - all gorgeous!), and in grade 12, a second French Canadian family - who were all black.  A good family though, and well liked.

In school, there were barely a handful of kids of my race, and religion, but even they were in a different socio-economic group.  But, we were all kids - we just got along!

Almost none. There were different flavors of Christianity, ranging from Catholic to Pentecostal, and one black family one county over. In that mid-century time, gays were closeted and the only real hierarchy was economic. The wealthy did their best to fit in with the middle class, and the poor were propped up by the community or their church. The only black gentleman I encountered in my home town from birth until I left for college was a street corner preacher who came to town from a city 50 miles away. He would preach a little gospel, then ask for a few dollars to "grease the gospel". He was known by the town as gospel grease. I later lived in the city he lived in, and found he had put six kids through college, one of whom was a vocalist with the Metropolitan Opera company.

As an adult, I tended to evaluate persons of other races the way we judged folk back home, on their character.
