Could a normal blood test show diabetes?

Recently I took a normal blood work test that showed your basic stuff. On there it had my hemoglobin a1c which was in normal range. All my blood work came back fine. And my doctor says I don’t have diabetes due to this normal routine blood test. But can it show diabetes in that test?

Yes it'll show if your sugar levels are off and if your enzyme levels are off

The HbA1c (hemoglobin A1c) level checks what your blood glucose level has been like over the previous 3 months, sir, so if it was below 5.7% (which is 39 mmol/mol on the International scale for blood glucose levels), this would indicate that you don't have diabetes ... or, at least, you don't have diabetes mellitus ... the one that used to be called 'sugar diabetes' many years ago.

What the HbA1c test does is look at what your 'average' blood glucose level has been like over the previous 3 months.  It does NOT, however, see if there are any rises and falls during the day and/or night.  This means that you COULD have an impaired fasting glucose level ... that's one where your blood glucose level is higher than the 'normal' range, but once your pancreas starts to work more efficiently, later in the day, it would bring your blood glucose level back under control.  This is one reason that doctors might perform a fasting blood glucose level check on people ... to see whether they have an impaired fasting glucose 'problem'.

If you want to see how to convert your American hemoglobin test and the International Standard HbA1c test, take a look at the following webpage.

If the Doctor ordered it in the panel , Yes

    Otherwise No.

Buy a simple test kit at your pharmacy.

Some pharmacies will do it on request.

If your glucose level was less than 100 it is in the normal range.  That's what your doctor based his conclusion on.
