Why don't you protect your country when somebody says hateful things about it?

I see when somebody simply tries to insult Americans, saying that all Americans are awful and terrible racists and that it's a rotten nation and country, some Americans just don't say anything and some can even agree, saying that "yes, America Is a bad country..." Said by Americans themselves... I think it's one thing just to admit some mistakes done by the governers and say to foreigners "Yes, we Americans were wrong in this 'n' that"... But when I see some unreasonable insults towards this nation and all that some of Americans can do is just to admit it and say "Yes, you are right, my country is bad.." I don't get it... What's wrong with them (or you)? Are you proud to be American?

Update:

User with a "strange symbol", insulting this nation is not gonna improve it... I'm saying about some foreigners who try to insult America because they think about it as an enemy country, Another country, far away... Not saying what's wrong with it, just unreasonable dirt...

Talk is cheap. Don't be stupid and start another 10 year war over a childish taunt.

The times when I was subjected to the strongest and nastiest anti-American insults was when I was in stationed in Canada and several European countries protecting their nations during the Cold War. On the US dime at that.

I agree, we should defend our country where we are in the right, but also admit it when we are in the wrong. The "my country right or wrong" attitude is destructive and makes us worse...after all, you can't fix it if you won't even admit it is broken.

Despite all the problems we have here in this country I would still rather live here than anywhere else in the world.  So yes, I am proud to be an American.
