Leash for a choke chain?

A leash that will stay high on the neck, just behind the ears. Anything flopping around gives you  absolutely no control. Take a look at where leashes are in dog shows. They are not tight allow 2 fingers worth of loose. no choke chains needed.The lower part of a dog's neck is full power & strength for the dog. No control.

If you were in a DOG TRAINING CLUB you would NOT use it to CHOKE your pet - you would be using it to let your dog decide that it is pulling too hard so should slow down to your speed. Its PROPER name is a slip-chain (or maybe a slip-collar, although it is NOT a collar), and each link should have straight sides - NO twisted links to cut the neck hairs.

There are only TWO kinds of leash for normal owners, both are about 6 feet / 2 metres long, and flat.

One is made from flat leather. One is made from flat thick woven nylon. Both have a retractable knob-clip as in:   https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:AN...   at the dog's end, and a "wrist-gripper" loop at the human's end.

For those who are members of a rescue team, there are MUCH longer leashes - but the clip at the dog's end and the gripper at the human's end are the same.

NEVER get youself the sort where the leash is self-retracting into (and self-extracting from!) a plastic or metal "handle", like:   https://www.thepetcentre.co.nz/dog/flippy-regular-...   Their ultra-thin leash (from inside the handle-chamber) is GREAT at slicing any skin it touches as it slides past when the dog decides to race ahead!

Use a leather leash, 6 ft long.  ONLY USE CHOKE CHAIN IF YOU KNOW HOW TO USE IT.  There is a right way & a wrong way & if you don't know how to use the choke chain you can really harm your dog.  a choke chain is a wonderful training tool if you know how to use it.

I learned to train with a choke chain & a loose leash.  Using my bodylegs to make corrections.  This makes the dog pay attention to you as to what you are going to do next.

I use a harness as a dog trainer told me choke chains cause pain and teach nothing, I have mastiff not always friendly has a playful aggression and weighing 8 stone on pure muscle can be handle but the harness works perfectly

Are you sure you know the correct way to use a `check chain`?

There is a right way and a wrong way.

Also is the chain small or larger links? 

A standard 6ft long lead is the usual lead to use. 

What exercise are you trying to train your dog, that you feel the need to use a full check chain? 

In the wrong hands they teach the dog absolutely nothing.

If it is a big or strong dog, I recommend a leather leash.  This is because leather is easy on the hands when you have to hold it tight.  If it is a small dog, it doesn't matter.  For proper training, a 6-foot leash is good because you can walk around the dog and so forth.  For walking the dog once it is well trained, 4 feet can be good.  

Of course I assume somebody is teaching you how to use a choke chain.  There is a particular technique to it.  It is not intended to hurt the dog.

My dog is 140 pounds.  My last dog was 120 pounds.  I have never owned a dog under 80 pounds.  None of my dogs have worn a choke chain.  I'm female, 5'4", 122 pounds.  I can only guess - something heavy if you need a choke chain to control your dog.
