Persistent cough help?

Hi! So I have this annoying cough that gets worse when I take deep breaths and especially at night for the past 2 weeks . I had covid a month ago (though I never coughed from it) but I’m thinking it has to do w the cat I’m fostering. Just weird because although I’m allergic, I’ve never coughed from it and I had him for weeks no problem. I’ve been taking allergy meds w no relief and I hate taking cough medicine regularly so I was wondering if anyone else has any ideas. I’ve tried just about everything.
