i am well aware of the backlash against socialism and communism in all forms.  as to the specifics of Chile -- I point out that, after the reforms instituted by the military and following free enterprise governments, Chile vaulted from declining GDP/capita to one of the highest growth rates in Latin America and has passed by its traditional rivals in this regard.  Success at making most people's lives better is the appropriate measure, don't you think?

Nations support or withdraw support from various leaders, as their perceived advantage / disadvantage of the alliance changes.

There is no ethics or morality involved in any international alliances.

All the stated reasons fed to the public are nothing more than smoke & mirrors to satiate public sentiment.

It's been this way since the first Kingdoms except Kings did not feel the need to craft some public justification for their actions like the power brokers today do.
