Do you think the whole  Capt Tom cult was a bit OTT?

Yeah, he did a sponsored walk.

Thanks, well done.

Having been in WW2 doesn't automatically make you Mr Wonderful. My next door neighbour was a desert rat but didn't him being that didn't stop him being a nasty old git.

Yes it was all a bit too much. Publicity stunt by his money grabbing Daughter.

Well whatever you view of the Captain Tom thing. you do have to admit

that it worked for the good, with all the money raised being used for charitable

good deeds. whether the daughter saw an opportunity to use the notoriety

of her fathers exploits doesnt really matter. Capt tom's walk along his drive

came just a the right time when society in general was totally fed up of Covid 19

and the continual bad news that befell us all back then.

So all anyone should say about Capt Tom and his charity fund raising walk

is well done and  RIP and not try and belittle something that was obviously done

for the very best of intentions.

He was a symbol in those  dark early days of the pandemic  when it seemed the end of the world was nigh, much like the Queens "we will meet again" speech. It didnt seem right to me from the start. They made the mistake of taking a long holiday in the sun before he had been vaccinated.

And what have you done other than leech off the taxpayers?

You must be out functioning, not trolling. Captain Tom at 100 years was more of a male than you'll ever be.

No, but time will tell what long time public opinion becomes. Captain Tom provided a needed diversion and entertainment during lock down. It is also laudable that he was instrumental in encouraging people to contribute pledges to the NHS. At age 100, he was one of the few actual veterans of the British combat efforts in the Far East during WW2 STILL ALIVE at that point. As he's no longer with us, it's really a MOOT point.

I'm afraid, like all too many events at the moment, this was one that was ott.

One of our neighbours walked back from Russia AND had time to pick up the Iron Cross twice.   Nobody called for him to be given a state funeral.

Admiral Colonel Sir Captain Tom Moore KBE Etc's sponsored shuffle was a device to distract large sections of the UK's attention from the negligence of HM Govts approach to Covid19.

    It worked a fcuking treat.
