Here's my rank order of the Rock Era from best to worst:
1 1960's Best - Best era of experimentation where rock came of age with almost every subgenre of rock represented from Doo Wop to heavy metal
2 1990's Alternative Rock came of age again we saw a lot of experimentation and creativity
3 1980's An amazing reprieve from the corporate driven rock of the 1970'
4 1950's If you excised the non-rock from this decade this would rank higher
5 2000's Still good though noticeably less creative than the 1990's
6 1970's Except for some of the hard rock and early Alternative rock most of this decade was driven by corporate dictated formulas
7 1940's Yes, some rock actually existed in this decade, but not enough
8 2010's Worst - Sure there were some good songs in this decade but political correctness and thought control by the labels and the music gatekeepers has stifled creativity. I never believed I would ever see a time where a whole year could pass by and I wouldn't even discover a single song that I could get excited about. Incredible!

1970s-1980s isn't the best music, but rather best music in my opinion.
if you ask a kpopers what decade is the best music, they would say the 2010s.
but I personally like the 1970s!

1970's for sure!
On the whole, I'd say every decade since has gotten progressively worse.

70's
Reasons:
Best prog rock ( pink Floyd, frank zappa, genesis, gentle giant, king crimson etcc)
Best hard rock ( deep purple, black sabbath, led zeppelin etc)
Best pop hits with 60's ( Elton John, David bowie Abba, John Lennon queen and on and on)
Best disco music ( bee gees, Barry white etc...)
Best soundtracks with 60's (godfather, star wars, Jaws, etc)
Worst period 80's
Reasons :
Worst prog and hard Rock music than 70's
Worst hits than 70's and 60's
Worst disco music than 70's
Worst soundtracks than 70's
90's, 2000's (10,20) are garbage, so out contest.

For me the best all around were the '80s. Rock, pop, R&B, metal, indie, alternative, country, you name it, every genre was firing on all cylinders and outstanding acts seemed to be introduced on practically a daily basis. Just about any week from that decade delivered a song that's considered an all-time classic today.
I think the worst is right now. Less people playing real instruments and instead programming music on a computer, substandard vocalists hiding their weaknesses with auto-tune, riffs being recycled, the annoying as f*ck "Millennial Whoop." Nothing sounds original anymore, IMO. Which is a shame, because there are some talented musicians out there, but it's hard to compete when some schmuck can program and loop a beat in the blink of an eye and flood Youtube with half a dozen new songs a week. There's just so much garbage music out there that it becomes a genuine chore to sift through it all to find even one good song.

Music is sh*t now!! The 60's, 70's, and the 80's were the golden age!
