With an extra $300 a week over regular unemployment until September, won't more people now stay home?  Why go back if work means less pay?

Update:

Anon.  - Trump didn't "ship jobs overseas".  On the contrary, he put pressure on US companies to KEEP their factories in the US.  That is part of why unemployment reached record low levels before Covid while he was President.

If someone applies for unemployment, and their employer reports that they have a job to go back to, they won't get the payments.  And if they lie about the availability of their job, and lie, they can get hit with fraud charges.

A $15 minimum wage is the same thing.

They should be paying people an extra 300 a week to go back to work.

They are staying home and it is making it hard for a lot of small businesses to reopen as quickly as they would like.  Paying people to stay home is bad policy.

You recognize the problem.  In my area, employers cannot find people to work in labor intensive jobs.
