If you accidentally get poop on your hand, how many days does it take to get the smell off? (Please see details)?
This morning (and last night) it has been severely windy. I own a dog, I always pick up after her dumps when walking her. If there are no public garbage cans present on our path home, I place her (dump filled) bag in my garbage can at home. For years, this has always worked.
Yet, the extreme wind today (12 degree wind chill) knocked over my trash can. In that trash can was a trash bag filled with this weeks' dog dumps. Not wanting them to fly onto my neighbors yards, I ran to each dump bag, picked it up, placed it in the garbage bag in the trash can, then placed the can in the (stable) garage.
Looking back, I could have taken 2 minutes to put on a pair of gloves. I just would have felt so guilty and embarrassed had the poo bags gotten on my neighbors yards, I may have panicked.
Anyway, my hands smelled like dog feces afterwards. I washed them for a minute or two, thoroughly. Then again half an hour later. They still smell like feces. Should I just keep washing them every half hour? Or, is there a special soap, or cloth, or anything I should buy to get the stench out? :(
If not, if I keep washing them regularly, will it take days (how many) for my hands to not smell like dog poop anymore?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Please no mean or sarastic answers. Thanks.
God bless

Try the vinegar that ? told you about. It takes the smell of pee right out of carpet. Vinegar is good for many things. You could try washing the faucet with your hands, like what they do to get rid of onion smell off your hands.

I used an anti-bacterial soap more for health reasons than odor, and that worked. (You sound like a really good neighbor. I wish you lived next to me.)

I use Bronner's liquid castile soap to deal with it. I imagine any quality castile soap would be equally effective.

It shouldn't be that difficult to remove the smell. If you haven't already try a nice smelling anti-bacterial hand soap. A trick that might work fisherman use to remove the fish smell from their hands is to wash our hands with Windex. Spray a bit of Windex on, rub it in, let it dry, wash with soap.
Your hands won't stink anymore and they shouldn't streak but it may dry you out a bit if you have soft skin on your hands.
Lotion and drink water to hydrate which hydrates and helps replenish the natural oils in our skin.

Did you change your clothes? As it is more likely some got onto your clothes and that is what you can smell........ as the reality is once you wash your they are clean AND if the dogs feces smell so bad then I would look at changing the food you feed as it shouldn't smell if fed quality food its body can absorb, it will only smell if you are feeding junk food

You can try some white or apple cider vinegar. Soak your hands in 1 part vinegar, 1 part water (so a cup of vinegar to a cup of water) for 5 minutes, air dry, then wash. I know vinegar is pungent, but better than poop! Also, if you have any fresh lemons, those may take the stink out. Cut a lemon in half, and rub the juice on your hands. Basically, acids should work to take anything stinky out.
