What are brick painted hut with a chimney pipe that goes high? There is a picture below?

They have these in different places. What is it. What do they do inside and why do they have it?

    might be a kiln ... high chimney is to get stronger breeze and thus better draft

    Where do you live?  Never seen such a building.  But if i was guessing I'd say sewage waste pump or maybe a air vent to reduce air locks.  The tall pipe is to vent the odor high so it gets disbursed So the public doesn't smell the sewage odor.

    Possibly part of a waste water/sewage system. The pipe is to vent gases harmlessly.  Do you hear a pump running inside?
