Was Jesus Christ himself a Jew or Christian? If a Jew why do we as Christians celebrate him?

    He was a Jew.

A Christian is one who follows Jesus.  Jesus obviously cannot follow himself.

He is celebrated because he is the savior (Lk 2:11) of mankind (Jews and Gentiles).

Jesus was born and raised Jewish, since the whole purpose of Judaism was to be the people through whom the Messiah, the Savior of humanity, would come into the world. At the moment of His birth, Judaism became obsolete, its purpose completed. As Jesus began His public ministry, great numbers of Jews recognized Him as the long-awaited Messiah, and followed Him, becoming Christians. Some did not, which is why Judaism still exists today, still awaiting a Messiah who came 2,000 years ago.

Jesus was Jewish, Paul was Christian. The gospels make it very clear that Jesus just wanted to enforce Jewish law, not create a new religion.

Because his teachings and example founded the Christian faith, as established by St Peter after his death.

Jesus would have called himself a Jew.

The Messianic Jewish perspective interesting in this regard. They do regard Jesus to be the Messiah, but as far as they are concerned, the appearance of the Messiah was supposed to be the reformation of Judaism. Not the birth of a new religion.

Because of Romans 2:28-29.  Philippians 3:3, Galatians 6:16.  Have a nice day.

He was both, silly.  The two religions used to be much closer.  Both have changed since then.

Jesus, Born, raised and died a Hebrew of his place and time.

He never said once he was founding a new religion. Even the last supper was a Jewish/Hebrew tradition.

  • He was a Jew right up to crucifixion, when he arose He became Christ-ian

Like many Jews who come to Christ (Messianic Jews) He is both

Jesus is Jewish by nationality, not by "religion".  Jewish as a nationality like Italian or French. Jewish people still need to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ in order to avoid hell, like all people. The Lord Jesus Christ is God, and He loves you.  Believing in the Lord Jesus Christ means being forgiven all sins past and future, and means going to heaven and not hell.  Death leads to immediate heaven or hell, and it is too late to be saved, after death.  All believers still sin.  See 1 John 1:8.  To be in heaven and not hell, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, who is God and who died on the cross and shed His blood to pay for all of our sins in full, and who was buried, and who resurrected from the dead.  The only way to avoid hell is by believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, without adding any of your own works.  See Romans 4:5, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, and John 3:16
