Why do most parents force their kids to sleep?

Most adults don't even sleep themselves.

Update:

It stresses me the hell out when my stepdad tells his 9yo son it's time for bed whenever it's 9:30 or 11:30pm.

    Lol are you kidding? That's late as hell for a 9 year old, my friend was 14 and had an 8:00 bedtime on school nights and I had an 8:30 bedtime on school nights when I was 11!
