As you walk you automatically compensate fro the hurt ankle by shifting your weight and walking differently. That puts a lot of strain on your muscles, tendons, and joints in your legs, hips, and back, which results in soreness in any area and to any degree. It's not that the sprain moved, but that new aches popped up elsewhere.

Exactly what Diane said. My physical therapist told me that everything is about balance. If the ankle has a problem, then everything else - knee, hip, lower back - can get out of whack, too. All of those parts are balanced upon each other and connected to each other. If the ankle is weak, injured or in pain, the other parts of the body have to work harder to keep the whole thing in balance. This can cause pain elsewhere. If you can, and it's really bothering you, consider seeing a doctor or physical therapist who specializes in sports injuries - they will know how to deal with ankles, knees, etc.

No, not the sprain, but if you are walking different because of ankle pain, then your leg might ache
