Should i trust this gesture?

Over a year ago i asked someone for their number (in a store) , to which they said no. I still go to that store often and sometimes see this person there, theyve served me a few times too since i asked for their number, felt a little awkward for me, but didnt seem to bother them. Now today (April 1st), they gave me their number, actually they got one of their co-workers to hand me a piece of paper with their number on it. What are your thoughts? im a little dubious because of what the date is today, im afraid its some April fools thing.

Update:

Rock the boat - Thanks, i didnt have much choice, i have to shop their for my job. I just sucked it up. I wound up txting them stating what day it was and asking if it had anything to do with it. I do plan on seeing them in person and talking to them at that store again, just to confirm.

Update 2:

Update, it was genuine, just a coincidence that it was april 1st :)

I find it impressive you found the confidence to go back to that store. I avoid a small supermarket near me not because I want to date one of the workers but because they just seem to hate it there and the interactions make me uncomfortable.

It would be extremely cruel for them to pull this as an April fools prank. The question is do you trust the friend who gave you the number? Who's to say they aren't playing a sick prank. I would go in to the store and ask the person you like directly and just say given the date today you wanted to make sure it wasn't a joke.
