No. As a single mom in poverty, I can't afford to do that. There's been so much anger, understandably, that some of these protests have spiraled out of control. I can't put myself in a situation where I might wind up in jail. If all my kids were adults, I would go to the protests. Going to protests is not the only way to help bring about change. We can bring about change by not living in denial about racism in this country. We can support change with our votes and by writing representatives. And for those with some money to spare, we can help bring change by opening our pocketbooks and giving to organizations that fight for the rights of racial minorities.
