Why do I need a covid test if I have a diabetic housemate?
My friends telling me I should get tested for COVID all because I have a cough and a 100.4 fever today. I’m 21 years old and I don’t feel that bad. I live with a diabetic and he feels fine. If I had covid, then he would get it, and if he gets it, it would be pretty obvious that he would have symptoms because he’s diabetic. Besides, the tests aren’t always accurate.
He’s 58 years old and it’s moderately under control, which means he still has to take care of it everyday
. He’s also overweight, but not obese. He’s also my father.

It's not always obvious. Any one can get covid and 'feel fine' or have very mild symptoms. A cough and a fever could be any thing. Any one around you could contract covid and not know it.
Talk to your doctor and see if you should be tested. If you test positive your father should get tested too.

If you don't want to get a covid test don't get one.
If you would like to know so you can get early treatment, get one.
If you had covid, he COULD get it but he may not.
Being diabetic increases the chance of getting covid but it doesn't change it to anywhere near 100%.
Regardless, you should stay at least 6ft away from your dad and wash the counters of commonly used places.

How old is your roommate, and is his diabetes under control? If it is under control, he should not be at any special risk because of it. If he is over 65, yeah he is at somewhat higher risk, but I suppose he is already exposed. Ask your roommate if he wants you to get tested. I don't think anybody else's opinion matters.

Well, knowledge is power, so it would let both you know if you need to isolate and if he gets sick, the cause will be important. You should a bit selfish. The tests are 94% or more accurate.
