    (a) conserve momentum in both directions:

    south: py = 1100kg*8.5m/s = 9350 kg·m/s

    west: px = 650kg*19.5m/s = 12675 kg·m/s

    |p| = √(px² + py²) = 15750 kg·m/s

    so |V| = |p| / (m+M) = 15750kg·m/s / 1750kg = 9.0 m/s

    (b) Θ = arctan(py/px) = 36º S of West

    (c) initial KE = ½*[1100*8.5² + 650*19.5²] J = 1.63E5 J

    final KE = ½ * 1750kg * (9.0m/s)² = 7.1E4 J

for a change of -9.2E4 J (but you might not need the sign)
