Which of the following is a permissible set of quantum numbers for an electron in a 2s orbital? 

A. n = 2, l = 1, ml = 0, ms = +½

B. n = 2, l = 1, ml = 1, ms = +½

C. n = 2, l = 0, ml = 0, ms = +½

D. n = 2, l = 0, ml = 1, ms = +½

    The "s" requires l = 0, and the rules always require |ml| less than or equal to l.  So the only choice that works is answer C.
