Theoretically all of the states that require ID to vote also offer a free version of the ID. This is to get around the Constitutional prohibition on a poll tax. But this still provides a barrier to people getting the ID. You still need to round up appropriate documentation and take it to the DMV to get your ID. Now for some people this might seem trivial, but if you are a person who doesn't have a valid ID, and doesn't drive a car, it might be difficult. That's particularly the case when Republican officials try to make it harder for you to access those IDs. For example in Wisconsin the former Republican governor of the state was closing down DMV offices in burgeoning Democratic urban areas and opening them up and largely stagnant Republicans suburbs. In Alabama, after they passed a voter ID law. They tried to close down all of the DMV offices in nine out of the ten counties with the highest percentage of African-Americans. In South Dakota, they passed a law which said that driver's license is another ideas which were issued by the state were not valid for the purpose of a voter ID law if they did not have a street address. This was a problem for many Native Americans, who vote overwhelmingly Democratic, because they mostly lived in rural parts of reservations where they did not have home delivery of mail and so did not have a street address. In Georgia the law requires that your name on your ID match exactly the name on the voter rolls. So if you're ID says John Adam Smith but your voter registration says John A Smith you can't vote. This may be particularly a problem for people with non anglophone names oh, such as the rapidly growing Asian population in the state, who may have their names Miss transcribed by public officials. As you can see, there are real hurdles that can happen for people who are trying to get nidey. Imagine you live a good distance away from the DMV and don't own or have access to a car. How would you get to one to apply for an ID? Or what about if you work multiple jobs and can't take off time during the day to go to the DMV? How would you get an ID? Of course, for the overwhelming majority of people these problems are not insurmountable. But then these laws were never meant to Des franchise huge huge numbers of people. Instead they were meant to shave off a few thousand votes here and there. In close elections that can make a difference. And the counter argument here is to ask what the benefit is? Republicans who back these laws overwhelmingly back them to disenfranchise voters and try to win elections which they can't do through legitimate means. But the claim they make is that this is about preventing voter fraud. The problem with this is that the only kind of voter fraud which has protects against, in-person voter impersonation, is so rare as to be essentially nonexistent. Statistically, you are significantly more likely to be struck by lightning while going to vote then you are to find that someone has voted illegally in your name.

How does closing polling places in high population density counties make it easier to vote? How closing Sunday voting make it easier to vote? How does allowing Republicans to overthrow election results they don't like make it easier to vote? We'll stop our "fits" the day you stop telling lies.

Voter ID is a red herring. Georgia's new law is a blatant and obvious attempt to reduce votes among low-income communities, particularly black communities. In addition to requiring Voter ID (which isn't the problem), the bill does the following:
• Voters will now have less time to request absentee ballots.
• It’s now illegal for election officials to mail out absentee ballot applications to all voters.
• Drop boxes have been almost entirely removed.
• Mobile voting centers (think an R.V. where you can vote) are banned.
• Early voting is expanded in rural counties, but not in urban counties.
• Offering food or water to voters waiting in line now risks misdemeanor charges.
• Voting hours are limited.
• The Republican-controlled legislature has more control over the State Election Board.
• The secretary of state is removed as a voting member of the State Election Board.
• The G.O.P.-led legislature is empowered to suspend county election officials.

Where you have to go to get this "free ID" has a lot to do with how easy they are to obtain.

You are part of a party of lies and misdirection because you have no respect for your voters sense of brain power.

If you think the only obstacle to getting state ID is the cost, you either don't bother to be well informed or choose to ignore reality in favor of fantasy and falsehood.

Even if the ID itself is free, supporting documentation usually isn't, transportation isn't, lost wages, etc.
.
The most egregious part of Georgia's law is that it turns over the power to run elections from the SoS and individual counties to the state legislature, so now if the legislature (under unified GOP control since 2005) disagrees with a county results they have the power to overturn those results.
.
Also, it should never be illegal to give another person a drink of water.
.
It is no coincidence that this law came into effect after Democrats had victories in the state in 2020 and the intention is 100% to reduce the turnout of likely-Democrat voters.
