What happens to solid NaCl (undissolved solute) in a saturated solution when we decrease the volume of said solution?

The solution consisting solely of NaCl and water.

Can someone please carefully describe what happens to this excess of solute when the volume of the entire solution is decreased? (I'll award best answer)

Thank you.

As the volume of solution decreases, the amount of solid, undissolved solute increases.

if you remove some of the liquid (the saturated solution), the solid salt remains the same. Where could it go? It can't go into solution.
