Why don't we exterminate all bats and rats from the world so we are much less likely to deal with another pandemic in the near future?
Seriously, bats and rats. It's not like I'm asking anyone to club a baby seal.
Rats and bats are the most dangerous carriers of diseases, and the species from which most new diseases jump to humans. I'm in no hurry to have another pandemic on the horizon when we finally move past this one.
People already call exterminators to get them out of their homes. Why not get them out of the whole world?
How is it going to effect our lives in any negative way if we don't have them?
Yes bats are the pollinators of bananas. Let me weigh those options.....not having another endless, deadly, life-alternating pandemic.....or not eating any more bananas.....hmm tough one.
But I think I'll go with giving up bananas.

The first major pandemic that white people started was due to smallpox when they gave blankets to Indians as gifts. Pandemics also occur because humans interfere with nature. They move in to disrupt bats with construction and deforestation due to greed. The bats then become stressed and spread viruses.

Balance of nature. Bats are major pollinators of fruit and nut trees, for one thing, and rats are food for larger animals. They also pollinate oranges, dates, cashews, all sorts of fruit and nuts. They should not be eaten. Hey, the ancient Hebrews were wise about dietary laws. And, even f you were forced to eat them, COOK them, for goodness sakes.
The thing is, they carry rabies here in the US. In CA, we are to consider ALL bats as having rabies! We are not to even TOUCH a bat for that reason! A man ran a mud race at the Del Mar fairgrounds and while he was running, a bat flew by, brushed his arm. (no bite, no blood, etc) and the bat was found later, had rabies, so they announced it to the news, and the man remembered the bat touching him. Yes, he had to get the shots! Don't mess with bats. Let them have their space and if you see one, be sure you know what to do about its removal.
