Lessons learned.  This YA experiment is almost over.  How could the philosophy section better suited your philosophical needs? ?

Seriously, if you could design a site what would make the experience better for you?

There was a time I visited this section quite often. Many times I learned positive things. Other times, I learned negative things from people who were rude and full of themselves. I'd be told what wasn't philosophy and what I shouldn't post here... and later, I'd see those same people posting what I was told not to because it wasn't philosophy.

And still... I choose to do what's right for me. Philosophy shouldn't be a bunch of stuff shirts looking down their noses at others or putting their noses high up in the air.

I learned a lot from others who weren't your conventional users/philosophers.

    Everybody has something to offer.

It's down to the contributing users, attracting and keeping them. Effective filtering of submissions is essential.

My pet peeve at Yahoo has been somebody I call the Inarticulate Naysayer. When somebody voted down an answer of mine that had solid facts and/or common sense, I always wanted to know why. We had comments under the answers, and a person could explain a thumbs-down, but many chose to vote me down without explanation. The logic of the Inarticulate Naysayer, it seems, is that "I don't like it" means the same as "It's wrong." It reminded me of what Homer Simpson said - "When will people learn - democracy doesn't work!"

When I started at Yahoo, the moderation was perhaps too stringent. I was reprimanded for making a joke about zombies eating brains and it was Halloween. Today there's none, and a lot of us will not miss Yahoo when it's gone. It's toleration of hate speech and advice for depressed people on the best ways to commit suicide have been absolutely despicable. They could have found volunteers to take care of the problem and they just didn't give a damn.

Oversight. Close moderation, like the legitimate philosophy forums that actually do exist.  Probably 98 percent of the questions here over the last 5-10 years were either not related to philosophy or were students trying to cheat on their homework,or were trolls.
